Inside the visit

What Your Houston Roof Inspection Includes

Drone + Ground Photos

Every slope, from the air and from the ladder — the same images we look at, in your hands.

A Written Summary

What we found, what it means, and whether it needs attention now, later, or not at all.

Wind & Hail Findings

Marks that matter for an insurance claim get photographed and noted, so your documentation is ready.

Zero Pressure

Read the summary, ask questions, decide on your own timeline. Nobody follows up with a hard sell.

Free means free: no fee and nothing to sign. When we do find wind or hail damage we document it carefully — but Storm Bolt Roofing is a roofing contractor and does not act as a public insurance adjuster.

What Does a Post-Storm Roof Inspection Document?

A good inspection is evidence you can hand to someone else: your insurer, a second contractor, a future buyer. Here is what ours puts on the record after hail or high wind.

Slope-by-Slope Photos

Wide shots that show where each slope sits on the house, then close-ups of every mark worth noting — so a photo of a bruise can't be mistaken for a different roof.

Drone Overview

When it is safe and useful to fly, the drone captures the full roof, including steep or awkward sections nobody should walk.

Test Squares

Where hail is suspected, a 10-by-10-foot area is marked on each slope and the hits inside it are counted and photographed, so the damage is measured rather than described.

Roof Measurements

Total squares, pitch, and the lengths of ridges, valleys, eaves and rakes — the numbers any estimate is built on.

Collateral Damage

Dented gutters, vents, pipe jacks, window screens and AC fins. Soft metal often shows hail size better than the shingles do.

Roof Details

Shingle type and condition, visible layers, flashing, and — when it applies — the attic, where leaks show up before the ceiling does.

When Should You Book a Roof Inspection After a Storm?

Book one after any storm that leaves you wondering. The common triggers in Houston:

  • Hail you could hear on the roof — the National Weather Service treats 1-inch hail and larger as severe.
  • Shingles, ridge cap or vent pieces in the yard after high wind.
  • Granules collecting at the downspouts, or new dents in the gutters.
  • A fresh ceiling stain, or neighbors getting roofs replaced after the same storm.

The visit itself takes roughly 30 to 60 minutes for most homes; size, complexity, an attic check and drone use move that number. If water is coming in right now, don't wait for an inspection slot — call for an emergency tarp first. Waiting on your visit? Our guide on what to do after a hail storm covers the steps to take before we arrive.

You and your insurer

Should I Get an Inspection Before I Call My Insurance Company?

Don't wait on us to report

The Texas Department of Insurance advises filing a claim as soon as you can after hail or wind (TDI guidance). Your policy sets its own reporting deadline, so book the inspection and report the damage side by side.

Why the inspection still matters

You find out whether there is real storm damage, you see the same photos the adjuster will see, and you have measurements and a contractor estimate in hand. At your request, we can also be present when the adjuster inspects the roof. Details on the insurance claim documentation page.

Not ready for a visit? Get a rough number from the 60-second roof estimate, or read the storm damage guide for the signs to look for. Spring homeowners can start at our Spring storm damage page.

We run these inspections from our Spring office across Greater Houston. After a hailstorm the calls tend to cluster by neighborhood, so if the storm hit your street, book early — local notes for Houston, Cypress, Tomball and Klein cover what we see most in each area.

FAQ

Free Roof Inspection Questions

Is the roof inspection really free?

Yes. There is no fee and nothing to sign, and you keep the photos and the written summary whether or not you hire us.

What happens if you don't find storm damage?

We tell you so, in writing, and show you the photos. A clean report is useful too: it means you don't need to open a claim for this storm.

Can you be there when the insurance adjuster inspects my roof?

Yes. At your request we can be present when the adjuster inspects the roof and point out the damage we documented. We don't negotiate the claim or act as your adjuster; the adjuster and your insurer make the coverage decision.

What do I get after the inspection?

The photos, a short written summary of what we found and, if there is storm damage, the roof measurements and a contractor estimate you can file with your claim. All of it is yours to keep.

How soon can you inspect after a storm?

Send the form or call 832-860-0262 and we'll confirm a time within one business day. If water is coming in, say so — active leaks go to the front of the line.

Rather Talk to a Person?

Call the office in Spring — English or Spanish, whichever you prefer — and we'll get your inspection on the calendar.
