Roofing Warranty in Houston: What Yours Covers

Two warranties come with a new roof. Here is what each one protects, which term you get, and how to keep from voiding it.

A Storm Bolt Roofing roof replacement carries a workmanship warranty of 5, 10 or 15 years, tiered by the system installed, and the shingle manufacturer adds a separate warranty on the material. Homeowners tend to hear “warranty” and picture one blanket promise. It is really two, from two parties, covering two different failures — and a few ordinary habits can quietly cancel them. This page sorts it out for Houston-area homeowners.

Two warranties

Two warranties, two different jobs

Workmanship — ours

Covers the installation: how flashing was set, how shingles were fastened, how vents and penetrations were sealed. Tiered at 5, 10 or 15 years depending on the system on your home, and built into the price we quote — never a line item at closing.

Manufacturer — the shingle maker’s

Covers defects in the shingle itself. Length and terms are written by GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, TAMKO, Atlas or Malarkey and differ by product line; we do not set them. Compare systems on our Brands page.

Wind and hail damage are not warranty claims from either party — they belong to your homeowners policy. Storm Bolt Roofing is a roofing contractor, not a public adjuster; we photograph, measure and write up the damage, and your insurer decides the claim. Details on our Insurance Claim Documentation page.
The tiers

Which term comes with your roof

5 years

Standard three-tab and builder-grade systems carry our entry workmanship term.

10 years

Architectural shingle roofs — most of what we install around Houston — carry the ten-year term.

15 years

Premium and impact-rated systems installed to the manufacturer’s full specification earn our longest workmanship term.

Which tier you are getting is put in writing before you sign and printed on both the estimate and the closeout paperwork. A roofer who will not commit the workmanship term to paper is telling you something — ask before you sign anything.

Habits that void a roof warranty

Someone else’s repair

The number-one way coverage lapses: a different roofer, satellite installer or handyman touches the roof after us. Call us before anyone climbs up.

Pressure washing

A pressure washer blasts off the granules that shield the asphalt from the sun. Soft-wash if you must, or leave the roof be.

Cutting new holes

Dish mounts, solar standoffs and add-on vents put through the roof later break the water seal unless they are flashed correctly.

Sealed-off vents

Covering soffit or ridge vents traps heat and moisture under the deck and ages shingles early.

Walking the roof

Shingles on a Houston roof in August are soft; footsteps scuff granules off. Leave the climbing to us — the inspection is free.

Waiting on small leaks

A loose flashing corner ignored through one wet season turns into rotted decking. Tell us while it is still a small fix.

FAQ

Warranty questions, answered

What is the difference between a workmanship warranty and a manufacturer warranty?

The manufacturer warranty is written by the shingle maker — GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, TAMKO, Atlas or Malarkey — and responds if the shingle itself is defective. The workmanship warranty is written by Storm Bolt Roofing and responds if the installation fails: flashing, fastening, ventilation or detail work. Good shingles put on badly still leak, so a sound roof needs both.

How long is Storm Bolt Roofing’s workmanship warranty?

Storm Bolt Roofing’s workmanship warranty is tiered at 5, 10 or 15 years. The tier follows the roofing system and materials chosen for your home. You see the term in writing before you sign, and it is printed on your paperwork — never something you have to hunt for later.

Does the warranty transfer if I sell my house?

Talk to us before you list the house. Whether the coverage transfers depends on the tier and on the manufacturer system, so we confirm in writing what applies to your roof instead of giving a one-size answer here.

What can void a roof warranty?

The usual culprits are work by another contractor after ours, pressure washing, needless foot traffic, penetrations added later such as satellite mounts or vents, and ventilation that has been blocked or changed. Wind and hail damage are not warranty matters — that is an insurance claim, and we can document it for you.

How do I make a warranty claim?

Phone 832-860-0262 or email Office@stormboltroofing.com with your address and a description of what you see. Every roof we build is photographed from tear-off to finish, so we compare today’s condition against the completed installation before anyone goes up a ladder.

Is the warranty included, or does it cost extra?

Yes, it is included. The workmanship warranty is part of every Storm Bolt Roofing roof replacement and is built into the quoted price — not an add-on at closing.
