How much does a new roof cost per square in Houston?
Roofers price by the square: 100 square feet of roof surface. Our estimator uses $375 to $650 per square for an installed asphalt shingle roof in the Houston and Spring area, including tearing off the old roof. That per-square figure covers materials and labor together.
Two adjustments sit on top of it. Taller homes take more time to stage and carry material up, so the estimator adds 8% for a two-story home and 16% for three stories. And if you choose something other than asphalt, it scales the price: 1.9× for metal and 2.3× for tile.

How much does a roof replacement cost for a 2,000 sq ft house in Houston?
Your home's living area isn't the same as its roof area. The estimator converts one to the other in four steps: divide the living area by the number of stories to get the footprint; add 12% for the eaves and overhangs; multiply by a pitch factor (1.06 for a low roof around 4/12, 1.18 for a typical 6/12 to 8/12, 1.34 for a steep 10/12 to 12/12); then add 12% for cut waste, hips, valleys, ridge and starter. Divide by 100 and you have squares.

The two-story line surprises people: the same 2,000 sq ft stacked on two floors sits under roughly half the roof, so it costs less even with the 8% height adjustment. - Extra layers of old shingles to strip and haul off.
- Rotted or storm-damaged decking that has to be replaced — often only visible once the old roof is off, so the final count is confirmed during the job.
- A premium or impact-resistant shingle line, or code-required ventilation and flashing upgrades.
How much does a roof repair or emergency tarp cost in Houston?
Roof repair: $450–$1,900+
