The asphalt is modified with polymers so the shingle stays flexible instead of hardening over time. In practice that means better impact resistance and better behavior through Houston's heat cycling.
Is Malarkey worth the extra cost?
If you plan to stay in the home long term, often yes. If you're selling in three years, we'd usually steer you to a GAF or CertainTeed architectural shingle and tell you to keep the difference.
Is it available locally?
